Current Ivory Coast President, Laurent Gbagbo, refuses to step aside and acknowledge the recent election results which name Alassane Ouattara as the new President. Hillary Clinton has threatened to impose sanctions on Gbagbo if he refuses to give up his power as President to the rightful winner. Nigerian President, Jonathan, has also tried to convince him to step aside for the good of the country and to honor the election results. President Obama has sent personal letters to Gbagbo expressing his concern.

  2. Every time I read news regarding the Ivory Coast elections, I am more and more surprised. Even after being suspended from the African Union, Gbagbo refuses to cease power. This is a sign that he is not willing to cooperate and violent times may be ahead.
