Drug traffickers have raised havoc by blockading the main roads into Morelia, the capital of Michoacan state. Michoacan is known for La Familia Michoacana, a powerful drugs cartel. Police were struggling in gun battles and attempting to unblock the five main roads leading in and out of Morelia. As a result of the violent events, schools were on lock-down and universities closed. However, it has been reported that the gang has offered to negotiate a truce with the government and disband. As Mexican authorities continue to pressure drug cartels, it is expected that these pressures will alleviate the situation in Mexico.
