Khimki Highway is a GO in Moscow, like it or not

"Kremlin Approves Khimki Highway"

The Khimki Highway, also known as the Moscow-St.Petersberg highway, is a route that has now been approved to go straight through the Khimki Forest near Moscow. This road has been a huge concern not only for the environmentalists but for Russian politicians as well these past few years. President Medvedev called for a temporary hold on the decision back in August in what seemed to be just an attempt to please everyone and earn him brownie points. Nonetheless, the campaign has also proved lethal for those who took an opinion in the issue. Some journalists opposing the government's actions have been brutally beaten and killed in the past couple years because of their articles.

The more I learn about the new Russian "democracy" and President Medvedev, the more I come to understand the true state of the nation. There are sure signs that Russia is still in transition from its former communist regime and is struggling to get on its feet.
