Latest funding buzz stings budget

The European Union is becoming increasingly concerned with the declining honey-bee population. The population decline began in 2006 and has since continued, alerting agriculture experts. The decline in the population of honey-bees is due to colony collapse disorder, an event in which worker-bees abandon their hive. Bee hives rely on worker-bees in order to produce honey, since worker-bees are the main pollinators. However, the European Union faces a much larger concern, agriculture. Plant pollination is heavily dependent on bees and is necessary for plants to continue their life cycle. For this reason, the EU is considering increasing funding for agricultural programs by almost 25%, up to €36 million per year. Facing problems with budget deficits, the EU has been taking initiatives to assist with budget deficits, an action not complimented by increased agricultural funding.
