Republicans Want To Keep 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell'

The republicans did not vote to pass a new law which would repeal the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy in the military. Democrats have been pushing for this bill for quite some time but could not get the 60 votes needed for it to pass. Republicans want to make a compromise with the recent tax-cut bill so that their bill will pass and they may be more willing to sign the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell". Most politicians speculate that either Congress will settle the military debate or the courts will end up doing it.
