Civil Rights
December 1, 2010 Current Event
This is the first law of its kind regarding the topic of surrogate mothers in Mexico. This law makes surrogacy legal in Mexico City as long as it is authorized by the Health Department. Nevertheless, the woman cannot be a surrogate mother more than two times and and she cannot charge for it. The law is expected to help the 1.5 million couples with fertility issues in the country.
Though the law is comparable to many of the laws in place in industrialized nations like the U.S., it's interesting that the women aren't allowed to charge for the service. Why in the world would they want to do it then?! Hmm.....
